Merry Christmas, Eve, Whatever holiday you celebrate, be it Christmas, Hanukkah, Yule or any of the many other special days that happen in the month of December, society still pushes the materialism of Christmas in your face at every corner. This post goes out to the mother, grandmother, wife, father, that cried over not being able to afford a specific gift for someone this holiday season. My heart goes out to you, I too bawled over a silly tea set that I wanted to buy my daughter.
Every year I collect things from thrift shops and garage sales, all for Christmas. I bargain hunt like a wild animal, and love to throw a crazy Christmas without paying much money. For me its the thrill of seeing peoples eyes light up as they open gifts. My love language, gift giving, thrives this time of year. But as all the lights and cheer over the little packages i’ve collected started to die this year, when the materialistic pressures of commercialized Christmas hit me. Its my first year as a mother, my daughters first Christmas. Somehow I ended up being hit by a wave of guilt. All my daughters gifts were second hand. Suddenly all the lights and toys in the shops seemed to taunt me.
I’m here to tell you, If you are like me and get gifts second hand, its OK. The person you give it to doesn’t know. The toys play the same as new ones, the clothes often look nice and new. Don’t let the pressures of retail madness hit you this Christmas. If you give gifts, don’t feel like there is a need to spend hundreds or go bankrupt. Christmas is about family. The light in children’s eyes as they open gifts that, may have cost you nothing, but to them they mean everything. Showing children that spending money on the newest and grandest items, isn’t a necessity to happiness, and leading by example, finding joy in small things, is important.
My wish for you this holiday season is peace. It isn’t about money, its about the time of year. The deeper meanings behind any celebrations you may have. A time to heal wounds and draw closer as family. Momma, don’t kill yourself this Christmas. Don’t slave in the kitchen the whole day, sit back, relax, enjoy this time of year, enjoy the season. This season is really about Faith, Family, and Fun. Don’t get caught up in the commercialism, enjoy yourself tomorrow.
Now I must get back to wrapping up my presents, and finishing last minute projects. MERRY CHRISTMAS! We will be back with MORE in 2020. I have huge huge secret plans for the new year! Keep in contact for more information!
